Stay focused.

There was a man who was drowning, and a boat came by, and the man on the boat said, “Do you need help?” and the man said “God will save me”. Then another boat came and again, tried to help him, but he said “God will save me”, then he drowned and went to Heaven. When the man came before God he said “God, why didn’t you save me?” and God said “I sent you two boats, you dummy!”

My 10 year old came up to me yesterday and told me this joke and it got me thinking…

How many of you can relate to the drowning man? I think most of us are able to. I know that I am especially stubborn, and I don't like asking for help. Sometimes I’ll pray about a situation but most of the time I get tired of waiting on God and try and handle things on my own. This usually ends in total disaster.

Often times we pray and lament to God asking him to help us in our times of trouble and we think that if He answers our prayers it will be by our problem disappearing, going away, or somehow being resolved without any struggle on our part. But, looking back on some of the situations in your life, is that how God answered those prayers? For most of us, no. God is really good about sending people into our lives to help us in our times of trouble. He sends people who have walked in our shoes, and traveled down the road we are traveling down to give us direction and encouragement, and to support us during our difficulties.

This is why it’s so important for us to listen for God’s voice in our own lives, and equally important to be obedient when we hear Him!

Where is he leading you? What is he telling you to do? Who is he telling you to reach out to? You might be the answered prayer in someone else’s life. Don’t get distracted from what God is calling you to do. Stay focused.
