Finding calm within the storm

“The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm.”

Luke 8:24

The things happening in the world right now are crazy, I find myself questioning if this is real life almost every day.

I have 3 children, a 10 year old, a 7 year old and a 4 year old and our lives have been turned upside down! Not only are they all home right now because of Covid19, but my Husband is working from home. We are only a week into this and any established routine we did have no longer matters, and we are at this point just trying to survive without driving each other absolutely crazy! I scroll social media, and I watch news clips, and it’s easy to find yourself overwhelmed with anxiety and fear. I try and remind myself each time I read about another “confirmed case” or another “Covid19 related death” that this too shall pass.

Storms are as much of a part of life as death, and we can’t spend our days fearing what is to come. As believers we need to make sure that the storms we face in this life don’t drown out our faithfulness to God. It’s our faithfulness to God that others will see. God is the one we need to turn to when we find ourselves afraid of the future, and when we find ourselves full of anxiety and worry. We need to understand (and BELIEVE) how big our God is, so that we can stand strong in our faith. If you truly trust in God, you will never drown in doubt, fear or worry again.

God’s wants us to trust him through every storm we face, it’s his greatest desire. It doesn’t matter how hard we try and avoid the storms of life, and it doesn’t matter how much we stress over situations and events in our life, we cannot save ourselves. God is in control. Let Him calm the storm inside of you, so you can manage the storm that is around you.

I’m not trying to downplay how frightening things are right now, I have found myself anxiety ridden multiple times the past week. But, I do want you to remember not to let your anxiety, fear, stress, or the negativity going on around you to drown out your faithfulness to God.

I hope that your families remain safe and healthy in the midst of everything that is going on. I pray for all of those who are unselfishly putting themselves at risk to help others.
