I wasn’t going to, but…

So many people are saying that people are overreacting and acting in fear when it comes to closing schools, and canceling activities, etc. because of the Coronavirus. Those same people keep posting and reciting 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

But then those same people are posting about how they won’t be able to pay their bills if they can’t go to work because their kids are home and they have nobody to care for them, or how they are losing money in the stock market.

They seem to have forgotten Matthew 6:31-34, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

I’m a Mom of a child with a rare chronic kidney disease and I want to ask that you at least consider this...

With Coronavirus many healthy people will not even know they have it. Some/most healthy people wont even experience symptoms, but they can infect others with lower immune systems and those who have underlying health issues like asthma, COPD, emphysema, heart failure, kidney disease, etc…

For instance, let’s say you just got back from traveling domestically and were at an airport recently which are being considered “hot spots” right now for the confirmed cases of Coronavirus.  You go to church like you do every Sunday. The elderly and the immune suppressed could get the virus from you and it could be deadly.  You could even spread it to another healthy person that is there and then they could go home and pass it onto their family members who didn’t even leave the house, and the healthy person never knew they had it.

Now, I know EVERYONE doesn’t go around touching everything, touching your face, sneezing, and coughing on stuff...but some people do, some do and don’t realize that they do, and there are individuals who see others not making it a priority to cancel events, activities and stay home, and think they don’t need to take those precautions either.

I have multiple members of my family who this could become life threatening for and I’m sure you do too!

I’m begging some of you to please just consider what I’m saying.

I know that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, and love and a sound mind...but I’m asking you to show that spirit of love by taking into account how this effects others, and to have a sound mind by being smart and consider others and putting others well-being ahead of our own inconveniences....

Closing public spaces and cancelling events isn’t acting in fear, and closing churches and holding online services isn’t acting in fear either.  It’s taking into consideration others health and well-being. PEOPLE are the church, not a building and a lot of people seem to be forgetting that!

Some are worried about the children who will be left hungry because the only meals they get are at school, I understand that concern, but instead of being upset over the schools closing, do something to help! Pack bagged lunches, donate money and other resources you have to local food pantries and other organizations that are available in your community!

Proactive measures need to be taken to assure that we don’t end up in the same situation as Italy and other countries. Please be mindful and respectful of those around you.   It’s not always about YOU!.

Serve where there are safe and sanitary opportunities to serve. Love your neighbors by following the precautions the CDC has implemented and put in place and by doing your part to keep this awful virus from spreading to the vulnerable in your community.

Don’t forget God’s got this!
