Where does -faith- come from?
“By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” - Ephesians 2:8
I’ve never looked at faith as a gift from God before, but hearing this verse gave me a different, new perspective.
I have always felt like my faith came from experiences. I have always thought that going through different situations, facing difficulties, watching suffering, etc, is where my faith originated, but I was wrong. These situations and experiences developed my faith, but they aren’t where my faith was birthed. It wasn’t at the ‘root’ of my faith.
Ephesians 2:8 says, “By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God”
Faith is a gift of God to undeserving people.
Faith, comes from hearing the word of God.
To surrender our lives to God we must have faith. We must have faith to believe in God, because he doesn’t have a physical body that we can see, we have to trust and believe that he is there. We also must have faith that He (God) raised Jesus from the dead, and that in Him we are saved and have eternal life. Faith is not something that just happens, faith has a source and it isn’t us.
As you read the Word of God (the Bible) and you begin to understand who Christ is, and what believing in Him does for you, that relationship grows, it strengthens and you begin to see its value. By seeking, reading, trusting and living the Word of God you are given the capacity to have faith in God because you now have hope in something greater than yourself.
